Scottish Government Launches Review of Fire Safety Standards
The Scottish Government has opened a major Call for Evidence as part of a full review of national building standards and fire-safety guidance. The review follows recommendations from the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 Report and aims to strengthen fire protection, clarify guidance, and improve safety across all building types.
The consultation will inform future changes to The Building (Scotland) Regulations and focuses on three key areas: implementing Grenfell-related recommendations, developing a compliance plan manager role, and improving wider compliance processes. Stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on issues such as compartmentation, evacuation procedures, external fire spread, compliance checks, and the clarity of existing guidance.
This 12-week Call for Evidence runs from 16 January to 10 April 2026 and will shape the direction of Scotland’s building-safety reforms.
